Senate File 49 granting private schools the same exemptions from county zoning as public schools passed on third and final reading on the floor of the Wyoming House Monday. The passage came on a divided vote of 33 to 26. The bill had been passed out of the Senate on January 23rd and placed in the House Corporations Committee for consideration there. From there, the measure was passed out of committee on a vote of 6 to 3 and sent on to the House. The legislation was introduced in response to a disagreement between Teton County and supporters of the Classical Academy who wanted to construct a school building on a parcel of property south of town not currently zoned for it. Once signed by Governor Gordon, the action will become effective July first.
