During their special meeting, the Teton County School Board voted on split votes not pursue COVID-19 surveillance testing for all staff and students prior to the start of school. They also opted to forgo such testing of high school volleyball and football players. District Spokesperson Charlotte Reynolds says the board had not previously made a decision about testing, and so scheduled a special meeting Wednesday to address the issue. She says they determined the cost was not justified since that testing would only be a point-in-time test that potentially would not be relevant days later. At the same time, optional surveillance tests are being made available for staff. Reynolds says special walk-through readers will be placed at the doorways of the high school and middle school to monitor the temperatures of students as they arrive, and no-contact thermometers are being distributed to all elementary classrooms. Reynolds says face masks will be required throughout the day in all buildings, but mask breaks will be scheduled for students in settings where it is safe to take them off for a few minutes. School begins next week with A/B days at the secondary level for half the student populations attending each day, while all elementary students will attend Monday through Thursday. Friday will be a virtual learning day for all students.
