At least one traditional youth activity of 100 years or more is being interrupted by the Coronavirus this year. Grand Teton Council Executive Board has voted to suspend all Boy Scout resident camp and Cub Scout day camp operations for 2020. The board cited the health and safety of camp participants and staff is their primary concern, and after long discussions and thorough examination of the state, CDC, and BSA guidelines connected with the Covid-19 pandemic, it became obvious that safe operations under the current conditions could not be guaranteed. The council’s actions follow the recommendations of the Scouts BSA national office and mirror actions taken in other councils around the country. All activities at Camp Little Lemhi and Island Park will not take place this summer. The Council will still be offering its Trail to Eagle program on a day-camp basis at Krupp Scout Hollow and whitewater high adventure programs at the Howard H. Dougherty Salmon River High Adventure Base near Salmon, Idaho. Scout camps will be made available for individual Scout unit and family use. Scouting units that have reservations for this summer have been given the option to have the funds rolled over to next year’s camps, receive a full refund of their deposits and any fees already paid, or donate the funds to the Council.
