Scouts Still Collecting Food

Despite the efforts of over 130 local Boy Scouts parents, siblings and leaders, Saturday’s food drive came up short of the traditional average again this year. Jackson Food Cupboard secretary Amy Brooks who coordinates the Cupboard’s efforts with the Scouts says in recent years, the drive had averaged around 300 cases of food while Saturday’s efforts brought in slightly more than 199 cases, which is still about 50 more than last year. The cases collected this year come out to an average of 3,610 pounds of food or approximately 5700 items.  The amount brought in will last a limited time with an average of 500 valley residents in need served each week. In hopes of collecting still more the Scouts will continue to maintain and empty food bins they have placed at the entrances of local grocery stores through the week.
