Secretary of State Chuck Gray has announced an investigation into ActBlue Wyoming, a political action committee registered with the Wyoming Secretary of State’s Office. This comes in response to nationwide allegations of money laundering and identity theft against the Democratic fundraising organization ActBlue.
ActBlue is accused of using stolen identities to conceal illegal donations, including those from foreign actors. As Wyoming’s chief election officer, Secretary Gray is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the state’s elections. ActBlue Wyoming must file accurate statements of contributions and expenditures with the Secretary of State’s Office under penalty of perjury. Filing a false statement is a violation of the Wyoming Election Code, and Secretary Gray has the authority to refer suspected violations to the appropriate prosecuting authority.
Secretary Gray expressed his concern about the allegations, stating, “The widespread allegations against ActBlue are deeply troubling, and we must ensure that political action committees are following the Wyoming Election Code. Claiming that a person donated to a PAC if that person never donated to that PAC would be a felony under Wyoming law. I am very concerned, and remain committed to a thorough review of contributions to ensure compliance with Wyoming law.”
Wyoming citizens who believe their identity was stolen or that a donation was falsely reported using their name are encouraged to report this to the Wyoming Secretary of State’s Office at [email protected] or 307-777-5860.
