Yellowstone National Park’s new superintendent Cam Sholly says he won’t consider capping the number of visitors to Yellowstone, which is expected to again attract more than 4 million visitors for a fourth consecutive year. Sholly told Montana Governor Steve Bullock that it just isn’t in the cards. Former Superintendent Dan Wenk had predicted last August that dealing with the increasing number of visitors would be a top issue for Sholly. Sholly said he appreciates having more visitors enjoy the park while at the same time knows rrit is important to protect and preserve the wildlife, scenic vistas and iconic thermal features in the park. One option Sholly said he might consider is testing a shuttle system to reduce traffic between the most-used entrance at West Yellowstone and Old Faithful. Sholly is using his first week as superintendent of Yellowstone to meet with political leaders and residents of the gateway communities about their concerns for the park.
