Signal Flats Fire Contained at 8 Acres in Grand Teton National Park; Suppression Efforts Continue

July 27, 2025 by Jackson Hole Radio

Grand Teton National Park

On Saturday,, Teton Interagency Fire crews at Grand Teton National Park successfully halted the forward progress of the Signal Flats Fire near Signal Mountain, with the fire estimated at just under 8 acres. Signal Mountain Road remains closed until further notice, and visitors are advised to avoid the area to support firefighting operations, as announced on July 27th.

Two helicopters dropping water from Jackson Lake were instrumental in slowing the fire’s spread, while ground crews established fire lines to contain the blaze. Approximately 35 personnel, including a USDA Forest Service Type 2 Initial Attack crew from Helena, Montana, are supporting Grand Teton’s efforts. Firefighters will monitor the fire overnight and, on Sunday, July 27th, focus on strengthening fire lines and initiating mop-up operations, using water from a nearby pond to extinguish hot spots.

The cause of the fire, which produced visible smoke across the park, is under investigation. Grand Teton’s high fire danger rating, driven by dry conditions, underscores the need for vigilance, as noted in recent Teton Interagency Fire updates. For real-time updates on the Signal Flats Fire or park closures, visit nps.gov/grte or contact the park at (307) 739-3399.
