Teton County Idaho Search and Rescue were called to the scenes of two parties who had become stranded on islands while floating the Teton River Saturday. Around 2:00 pm, a party of two became stranded on an island while floating a popular stretch of the river.
As the team prepped to assist them, a passing raft was able to rescue them.
Then, around 11:00 pm, the team was again called out to assist a party of four who also suffered a mishap and also became stranded on an island in the Teton. Eleven team members responded, and, using a jet boat, were able to transport them to their shuttle before midnight.
Search and Rescue leaders point out that both of these incidents serve as good reminders that the Teton River is still flowing fast and strong, and the weather is unpredictable As such, spare clothing, a PFD, and a backup plan are all important items to pack for your float.
