Believe it or not, the ski season is getting under way in the western US already with three ski areas in Colorado opening this weekend. Arapaho Basin Ski Area near Loveland Pass announced plans to open Friday while neighboring Loveland Ski Area and Wolf Creek Ski open their slopes Saturday. Snowmaking and 2 feet of natural snow helped push the popular ski areas on Interstate 70 at the Continental Divide to open this weekend. Farther south at Wolf Creek, a recent a 30-inch storm has provided for an all-natural settled is 20 inch base at the midway with 30 inches year-to-date this season. Wolf Creek will only be open on weekends at first. Closer to home, Grand Targhee is scheduled to begin the season November 16th, skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is slated to start November 24th, and the estimated date for Snow King Resort skiing to begin is December 10th.
