A structure fire yesterday extensively damaged an unoccupied guest house in the Skyline subdivision Tuesday morning. Fire Marshal Kathy Clay says the fire had apparently been burning for several hours before it was discovered. She says when firefighters first arrived, there was mostly smoke, but no visible fire since the fire was located in the space between the floor and the ceiling. She says it had made its way up between the walls to roof and into the cold roof. Clay says damage to the house was caused by the fire, but also by the process of accessing the fire inside the floor and walls. Clay says the fire is currently under investigation and adds that although there had been a painter working there Monday, it doesn’t appear the fire was related in any way to his activity. Clay credits the great response by fire units and personnel from the Jackson and Wilson fire stations for controlling a very difficult fire quickly.
