Slow Food in the Tetons has announced an exciting new partnership with Slow Food USA, bringing the unique food culture of Wyoming to an international stage. This collaboration will allow Slow Food in the Tetons to participate in Terra Madre, the globally renowned Slow Food Festival held biannually in Turin, Italy. The event, which takes place from September 26-30, celebrates global food diversity and sustainability and will offer Slow Food in the Tetons an opportunity to showcase the distinct food systems of the American West.
As part of this collaboration, Slow Food in the Tetons will not hold its annual Farm to Fork Festival this fall. Instead, the festival will now be presented in partnership with Slow Food USA on alternating years with Terra Madre (2025, 2027, etc.). This change aims to enhance the Farm to Fork Festival by integrating insights and relationships gained from Terra Madre, thereby adding more value and a broader perspective to the local event.
During Terra Madre, the delegation from Wyoming will include Jason Baldes from the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative, Patti Baldes of the Wind River Native Advocacy Center, and John Mionczynski from the Native Memory Project. These delegates, who played key roles in the 2023 Farm to Fork Festival in Jackson, will share their expertise and experiences with an international audience. Their presentations will focus on the rematriation of buffalo on the Wind River Reservation and the preservation of ancient Native American food wisdom.
Scott Steen, Executive Director of Slow Food in the Tetons, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership and the upcoming event, stating, “We are thrilled to connect with Slow Food chapters from around the world and to bring the stories and knowledge from the Western U.S. to Italy. It’s an honor to share our efforts and inspire others. We look forward to building lasting relationships that will enrich our local community and enhance our Farm to Fork Festival in 2025.”
