Many residents and visitors in the region have been complaining about respiratory irritation from the smoke in the form of eye and throat irritation and in some cases difficulty breathing. Air quality has been going between moderate and high risk through the weekend.
Wildfire smoke is made up of a variety of pollutants, including particulate matter and ozone, which can cause respiratory health effects.
The Wyoming Department of Health recommends that the elderly, young children, and individuals with respiratory problems avoid excessive physical exertion and minimize outdoor activities during this time. When smoke is heavy, keep windows and doors closed and remain indoors as much as possible.
A good air purification system may also help for those most vulnerable to the smoke as well. Also keep in mind, if the smoke is bothering you, it is bothering your pets as well. Current air quality information may be found at wyvisnet.com.
Smoke in the valley is primarily coming from California, Oregon, and northern Idaho wildfires.
