Smoke pouring into the valley over the weekend making it even difficult to see the Tetons from the valley has been coming primarily from the north and west of Jackson Hole.
According to a radar image released at 5:00 pm Sunday evening, the primary sources have been the 61,000-acre Beckwourth Fire in Northern California, the 90,000-acre Bootleg Fire in Southeastern Oregon, the 14,000-acre Dixie Fire Near Lewiston, Idaho and the 24,000-acre MY Complex Fire in Montana.
However, a variety of other fires are also contributing to the haze. Kim Deti of the Wyoming Health Department cautions that smoke poses health concerns with the greatest risk to the elderly, young children and people suffering from respiratory illness.
