A special weather statement from the National Weather Service in Riverton was issued this morning to warn about smoke in the region.
Forest fires in the west including California and Oregon are causing a massive plume of smoke over western Wyoming today.
They recommend against excessive physical exertion until things clear up.
In Jackson Hole and all of the western part of the state, the Weather Service has declared a Red Flag Warning indicating that conditions of low humidity, unseasonably warm temperatures, and strong gusty winds could cause new fires to break out.
Very high fire danger exists in western Wyoming and Eastern Idaho and the Haines Index is listed at 6 for a high chance of wildfire.
The Haines Index indicates the potential for large wildfires to experience extreme fire behavior based on instability and dryness of the air.
The Red Flag Warning is in effect until 9PM.
