SKMR Received Exception to Health Order #20-2 Which Allows for Uphill Recreation
Snow King Mountain Resort, Stio, Arc’teryx, and Exum will be hosting an online fundraiser to continue to groom the mountain for uphill recreation, which includes skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and walking. Donations can be made at snowkingmountain.com
Snow King Mountain Resorthas received an exception from Teton District Health Officer Dr. Travis Riddell to allow “personal uphill recreation to occur as well as grooming.”
According to the exception, this “activity does not pose an increased public health risk and may benefit the community in having an outdoor activity to participate in.”
Last year, a grooming fundraiser raised $3,000 for grooming (grooming costs SKMR $1,000 per session), with SKMR chipping in the 4th grooming free. This year you can contribute to grooming on the King online at snowkingmountain.com. Everyone who donates will be entered into a Raffle to win thousands of dollars worth of outdoor gear from Stio, Arc’Terx, Black Crows, Cowboy Coffee, Medicine Wheel Wellness, Snow King Mountain, and others. Results from fundraising efforts will be shared on the Snow King Moutain Facebook page (@SnowKingMountain) along with the grooming schedule.
“Last year we raised the money in 45 minutes of in-person raffle tickets sales. The goodwill and positive vibes were abundant during the month that Snow King was groomed after they closed. I think it’s a great time to find a way for locals to have a positive outdoor experience. It is time for some physical distancing, but letting folks be social and exchange a smile or two on the skin track could remind everyone that we are in it together and that we will get through this,” said Brenton Reagan of Exum Mountain Guides.
“We have received nothing but positive encouragement for this effort from local health and safety officials,” says Snow King Mountain Resort General Manager Ryan Stanley. “We hope that this provides locals with an avenue to get outdoors and exercise, and we trust our community to adhere to best practices and safety for all.”
