With recent cold temperatures ideal for snowmaking combined with early season fresh snowfall, Snow King Mountain will open on-time for its 82nd season Saturday. The Cougar Lift will be spinning as well as the Magic Carpet for beginners. It is anticipated that the Rafferty lift and King Tubes will be open by December 12th, and the Cowboy Coaster and Summit lift by December 19th. This is the last season that skiers, riders, and walkers can enjoy a long, leisurely ride on the historic Summit Lift which is due to be replaced by a high-speed gondola next summer. Skiers and riders should expect a retro-experience with limited indoor facilities and come dressed extra warm for the notoriously cold conditions on the King’s north-facing slopes. There’s ample parking at the base where people can warm up in the comfort of their own vehicle and grab a snack. King’s Grill and the Cafe will be serving grab-and-go fare and offer ordering in advance. Masks are required indoors and in lines, and skiers and riders will be encouraged to ride lifts only with people in their group or single. The rental shop is taking reservations for ski and boot fittings, and ski school is limited to private lesson offerings for groups or families travelling together.
