Snow King Mountain to Build Workforce Housing, Pilot Transportation Program

June 14, 2018 by Jackson Hole Radio

Snow King Mountain

Snow King Mountain Resort (SKMR) announced their efforts to build onsite seasonal employee housing as well as a pilot shuttle program for the summer to help alleviate traffic and provide additional housing.
Snow King plans to build onsite seasonal employee housing on Vine Street.  Seasonal workers are critical to Snow King’s summer and winter operations because the business operates approximately eight months per year. Currently, SKMR houses around 20 employees each season outside of the resort district. Recognizing the need to retain good employees and provide them with onsite housing, as well as help address the community’s housing shortage, Snow King is proposing a multi-purpose building on their privately-owned property on Vine St that would provide storage for mountain operations and employee housing.

‘Seasonal Workforce Housing and Pilot Shuttle Program to Help Address Traffic & Housing Shortages’

By housing employees within the resort district, this will eliminate the need for employees to travel daily across town to and from work.  Also, the proximity to the START bus will allow them to travel quickly around town.
“Snow King has been exploring opportunities to build onsite housing for several years, and if we can relocate our maintenance facilities to a better location at the base of the mountain, we will be able to create a visually appealing housing facility that will improve the look of Vine Street,” said Snow King General Manager Ryan Stanley. “We are looking forward to moving this proposed project forward as soon as possible and working to help solve our community’s housing problem.”
Snow King’s Activity Shuttle is a pilot program which Snow King will be rolling out this year. The activity shuttle will drive a regular route to hotels and key locations around town and offer free transportation directly to Snow King. Snow King hopes this program will help reduce vehicular trips around town and traffic congestion during the summer months.  By coordinating with front desk staff at hotels, Snow King seeks to make the shuttle experience convenient, easy and hopefully a service that will catch on with visitors.
