While much of the Jackson Hole Community is complying with the recommendations for limiting the spread of the COVID-19 virus by staying at home as much as possible and social distancing, there are some who don’t appear to be taking the situation seriously. During a community update from the town and county’s elected and department heads, Teton County Health Director Jodie Pond pointed out that the county’s unified command is concerned about many in the skiing public who don’t appear to think the orders apply to them.
Pond said, “Folks are congregating on the top and around Snow King, Mt. Glory and Targhee. Uphill access to these areas is a privilege, and one that allows our community to continue to exercise outdoors, to ski and stay healthy physically and mentally. Protecting our community from COVID-19 is our first priority; and if people cannot refrain from congregating in these areas, additional measures may need to be taken.”
Specifically, Pond says if the problem continues, access to the pass, Snow King and Targhee may be suspended. Skiers should not congregate in the parking lot, on the top of the slopes or other areas. Jackson Mayor Pete Muldoon added, “Our ability to enjoy the National Forest is very important for a lot of people. Let’s not jeopardize that for people who are doing the right thing.”
