Searching is to resume Thursday for a snowboarder who was buried in an avalanche on the west side of Teton Pass Wednesday afternoon. According to the Bridger Teton National Forest Avalanche Center, the report of the avalanche was made about 2:45 pm in the vicinity of the southeast ridge of Mt. Taylor. Teton County Search and Rescue volunteers and Wyoming Department of Transportation responded and searched until daylight prohibited further efforts. The partner of the man, whose name is not being released, initially conducted a beacon search of the slide area but could not pick up a signal. Rescuers also set up a probe line but were unable to get a hit. A sheriff’s spokesman says inclement weather prohibited the use of a helicopter in the effort, and it is hoped that weather will allow it to be used when efforts resume Thursday. Meanwhile, Mt. Taylor and the Coal Creek parking area are closed to the public, and backcountry uses on other areas of Teton Pass are strongly discouraged.
