Teton County Search and Rescue supported by a helicopter were summoned about 3:20 Wednesday afternoon to the scene where a snowmobile-triggered avalanche buried the rider near Leidy Lake southwest of Towgotee Pass. 29-year-old Cody Christopherson of West Salem, Wisconsinwas in a party of three when the incident occurred. Sgt. Todd Stanyon of the Teton County Sheriff’s Office says Christopherson’s companions did not see the slide occur as Christopherson was in the lead. Christopherson’s companions had him unburied from 6 to 10 feet of debris and had begun CPR by the time search and rescue personnel arrived, but their efforts were unable to revive him. This is the second snowmobile fatality in an avalanche in a month with the first taking place in the Horse Creek Drainage west of Daniel December 23rd.
