Some Re-Opening Begins Monday

May 8, 2020 by Jackson Hole Radio

Teton District Health Officer, Travis Riddell, MD, has announced that the Teton County Variance #20-5 will not be extended, and it will expire on 12:01am on May 11, 2020. The variance was submitted and approved to offer stricter guidance to two Statewide orders related to gymnasiums and personal service closures.
Beginning 12:01am on Monday, May 11, all affected Teton County businesses will instead follow Statewide Public Health Orders #1 and #3, which remain valid through May 15, 2020 unless revoked or extended by the Wyoming Department of Health. The Statewide Public Health Orders list operational conditions and restrictions that apply to the following businesses:

  • Statewide Public Health Order #1: restaurants, theaters, gymnasiums, childcare facilities, K-12 schools, colleges, universities, and trade schools
  • Statewide Public Health Order #3: nail salons, hair salons, barber shops, massage therapy services, tattoo, body art and piercing shops, and cosmetology, electrology, and esthetic services.

Allowing the variance to expire on 12:01am on Monday, May 11 has been a goal. Dr. Riddell stated that, “This is a date we have been eyeing for some time as an appropriate interval after having increased COVID-19 testing capability and sustained decrease in newly reported cases. We are pleased that our metrics continue to reflect positively on local control of the COVID-19 outbreak.”
Teton County Health Department released on May 7, 2020 an additional appendix of its Teton County Road to Recovery Plan. Appendix B: Guidelines for Businesses provides more specific public health guidance for different business sectors during each color-coded phase of the COVID-19 emergency.
Dr. Riddell went on to say, “We now have specific guidance for these businesses to minimize risk of disease transmission. The guidance was developed in coordination with the businesses themselves. Allowing reopening to begin on a Monday, rather than waiting until Friday, when there will most likely be more changes to the Statewide Orders seemed to be logistically feasible as opposed to waiting four more days until Friday, May 15.”
A list of current health orders and recommendations, as well as other information and updates, are posted on both the jhcovid.com and Teton County Public Health Department websites.
