The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office has responded to three thefts since last Wednesday involving catalytic converters. This important part of your vehicle’s operation reduces emissions, however nationally since 2021, there has been a spike in thefts due to the value of precious metals found inside of converters. Normally, these thefts occur in areas where a vehicle could be parked for a long period of time without a lot of people in the area. So far this has not been reported in private driveways.
Two of the recent thefts in Sublette County occurred out of town where vehicles were parked for recreation or for long periods of time where winter access to the owner’s home required them to park closer to the highway. The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office requests the public to be watchful for anyone suspicious who is looking around or under vehicles, and call Sublette County Dispatch if you observe something suspicious.
