Beginning with opening ceremonies tonight, the 2020 Special Olympics Wyoming Winter Games begin in Jackson Hole. The state office of Special Olympics assures despite the snowy weather over the past 36 hours, the games will be held as planned. More than 180 athletes,13 partners, plus their coaches, families, and chaperones, will celebrate over forty years of winter sports competition this year. Teams competing in this year’s Winter Games hail from across Wyoming, and teams from Utah, Montana and South Dakota as well. Athletes will compete in alpine skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing, with competition events being held at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Alpine Field. Opening Ceremonies tonight are at Jackson Hole High School at 7:00 pm with the lighting of the torch. Then Snow King Resort Hotel will host a banquet and victory dance on Wednesday night for the athletes. Members of the public are invited to attend the events and encourage the Special Olympians in their quests.
