Karen Connelly of St. John’s says plans are being finalized to deal with any suspected cases. The focus of those efforts, she says is keeping those with compromised health or the elderly safe, and also to keep staff safe and able to provide healthcare.
Connelly says the program being finalized is being designed to keep people with flu-like illness at home as much as possible. This includes having people call before showing up at the hospital or their health provider. Through that screening, it can be determined who should be seen in person; and then either arrangements can be made for a nurse or physician to go to that person in their home or to bring them into the facility in an isolated fashion.
In general, the program seeks to keep people with flu-like symptoms or who have returned from an area where the disease has been very prevalent away from the general public. Furthermore, Connelly says guidelines are being finalized for those wishing to visit nursing home residents. Until those have been formalized, she says everyone needs to make a common sense decision to limit any non-essential visits.
Teton County health officials urge those who exhibit symptoms of the COVID-19 virus to  please call the Wyoming Department of Health 1-888-996-9104 or your provider before coming to seek care. The best practice at this point is to screen you by phone or telemedicine and direct you to the best level of care.
The Teton County Health Department  has activated a hotline to inform the public about the virus. The automated system is operational 24-hours a day and will provide callers with local updates, steps to prevent the spread of the disease, and what to do if individuals have been exposed or are experiencing symptoms. You can reach the hotline by dialing 1-307-732-8628.
