On January 17, START Bus announced its procedures for managing service during winter weather closures affecting Teton Pass, ensuring safety and reliability for commuters between Jackson and Teton Valley.
Morning Commutes:
- If Teton Pass closes before 9:00 a.m., Teton Valley (TV) commuter buses will adhere to their regular departure times:
- TV1 will pick up at the Driggs Community Center, move to Victor Depot, and wait there until the pass reopens or service is canceled.
- TV2 will arrive at the Driggs Community Center on schedule, waiting for the pass to open or service cancellation.
- TV3 will stay on standby at the Driggs garage until the pass opens or service is canceled.
- If the pass opens before 9:00 a.m., buses will continue their routes to all stops in Jackson.
- If the pass remains closed past 9:00 a.m., all Teton Valley commuter services for the day, including afternoon returns, will be canceled. Buses will return to Driggs, dropping off passengers en route.
Afternoon/Evening Commutes:
- When Teton Pass is closed:
- TV1 departs at its scheduled time, heading to Stilson Transit Center in Jackson. It waits there until either TV2 arrives or the pass reopens:
- If the pass reopens, TV1 continues to Victor on its normal route.
- If not, TV1 will take passengers around through Alpine, Swan Valley/Pine Creek Pass, with a stop at Albertsons for facilities.
- TV2 also leaves at its scheduled time, heading to Stilson for potential transfers to TV1. If the pass doesn’t reopen before TV3’s arrival:
- TV2 will proceed to Victor via the alternative route, stopping at Albertsons.
- TV3 will depart as scheduled, going to Victor via Alpine and Swan Valley/Pine Creek Pass if the pass remains closed.
- TV1 departs at its scheduled time, heading to Stilson Transit Center in Jackson. It waits there until either TV2 arrives or the pass reopens:
- If conditions make travel unsafe via Swan Valley/Pine Creek Pass, START might cancel all afternoon/evening services to Teton Valley, advising passengers to arrange overnight accommodations in Jackson.
