The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) took action to promulgate emergency Chapter 29 Rules on Leader Evaluation during its meeting on June 21, 2018.
“The additional work from the Wyoming Department of Education and the advisory panel really helped the right adjustments to be made for the SBE to move these rules forward with confidence,” said Board Chairman Walt Wilcox. “The collaborative effort led to greater support and understanding of what will need to be implemented by school districts, so they can make the best choice for evaluating their leaders.”
The need to update the rules was prompted by a change in state law during the 2017 legislative session, which requires each school district to adopt a leadership evaluation system for superintendents, principals, and others serving in a similar capacity starting with the 2018-19 school year.
The emergency rules will immediately go to the Governor’s office for review. Emergency rules are temporary rules, effective for no longer than 120 days The SBE will consider promulgating regular Chapter 29 rules at their meeting on July 12, 2018 in Cheyenne.
