House Bill 134 which would establish a statewide lodging tax was once again endorsed by Governor Gordon Monday, and now is in the Senate Appropriations Committee for consideration. The bill moved to the state Senate after winning passage in the House on a vote of 39 to 19. The legislation, would add a 5% sales tax on all lodging services provided within the state with 80% of the average annual revenue collected during the immediately preceding five years to be deposited each year into a Wyoming tourism account. However, no funds would be expended from the account until appropriated by the legislature. Funds in the account are to be used for the operation of the Wyoming tourism board and the Wyoming office of tourism.
