The State of Wyoming wants to know how its residents want their public-school teachers to be evaluated. A bill requiring the implementation and administration of a comprehensive teacher evaluation system was passed in last year’s state legislative session and took effect July first. Since then, the state department of education has engaged stakeholders from across the state to develop draft rule changes. At their September 20th meeting in Laramie, the State Board of Education voted to withdraw the original proposed rules and publish amended rules, adding language that clarifies that school districts’ locally designed leader evaluation system must align to a majority of the benchmarks within professional Standard One of the state-defined system. Now the Department of Education wants the public to weigh in on the proposed changes, with a comment period to continue through December sixth. Those comments may be submitted online to the Wyoming Department of Education.
