House Bill 66 which would establish a statewide lodging tax has passed out of the Travel, Recreation, Wildlife & Cultural Resources Committee Wednesday and was placed on general file in the state Senate. That bill would remove the Wyoming Travel Commission from general fund and specify 3% of the 5% lodging tax for that office. Senator Mike Gierau of Teton County says the bill would be good for Tourism.
The bill is supported by the Wyoming Taxpayers Association and the Wyoming Economic Development Association, as well as the Wyoming Travel Industry Coalition. The state tax would replace local option lodging taxes, eliminating the need to vote on them every four years.
