In case you wondered how this week’s snowstorms ranked with snowstorms historically in Jackson, the National Weather Service has ranked the accumulations on Monday and Tuesday a record for those dates. Officially, the weather service recorded 11 inches on Monday compared with the previous record of 9 ½ inches on February 4th, 1965. The most snowfall on any day of the year was 15 inches recorded on February 25th, 1969. The official accumulation on Tuesday here was 10 inches, compared with only 3.5 inches on February 5th, 1979. The two-day record for Jackson was 28 inches which fell January 30thand 31stin 1905. Even if the records for the most snow in one day and the most over two days didn’t get broken this week, the accumulations came in 4thplace historically.
