Snowfall and wind over the past two days has generated real concerns across the region. The two storms since Sunday have combined to bring to two feet of snow and nearly two inches of snow water equivalent to several mountain locations. However, the strong winds combined with this new snowfall caused blowing and drifting snow at all elevations. Blowing and drifting snow forced the closure Monday of Teton Valley schools. Teton Pass was closed between 3:00 am and 5:00 am but WYDOT’s mitigation efforts on did not cause significant activity. Later in the morning, explosive efforts at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort produced many twelve to eighteen-inch soft surface slab avalanches. Then, at 9:30, the Cow of the Woods slide in Hoback Canyon released naturally, placing ten feet of debris across the highway. WYDOT crews were able to reopen the road after only a few hours. Then Monday afternoon, skiers triggered a soft slab in Drew’s slide to the south of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort with no injuries reported.
