Teton County School District #1 announced the resignation of Superintendent Gillian Chapman on April 11, 2025, effective June 30, 2025. Chapman, who served the district for ten years, spearheaded initiatives to elevate the district’s standing in Wyoming. She secured state funding to address overcrowding at elementary schools and Jackson Hole Middle School, and worked to obtain Specific Purpose Excise Tax and state funds to build the Bronc Achievement Center, a facility designed to provide Jackson Hole High School with space comparable to other 4A districts in the state.
Chapman’s leadership extended to employee support and development. She launched the TCSD Leadership program, training over 70 staff members to take on leadership roles, and conducted a strategic housing study that led to a 24-unit employee housing project, set for completion soon. Her efforts to close the achievement gap focused on ensuring all students could reach their potential. Under her tenure, the district saw two teachers earn Milken Awards, and Chapman herself was named Wyoming Superintendent of the Year in 2023. She also supported principals and assistant principals in earning state recognition.
Betsy Carlin, Board Chairperson, noted Chapman’s departure is to take a superintendent role in Kansas, allowing her to be closer to family. The Board of Trustees plans to outline the process for selecting a new superintendent within the next 30 days, building on the foundation Chapman established.
