Firefighters responded to several fires that ignited early Labor Day Weekend on the Idaho side of the state line. The Indian Creek Fire was contained at 7:00 pm Saturday having been confined to 2/10 of an acre. The fire was caused by an escaped campfire. The Smokey Hollow Fire just west of the state line above Mosquito Creek had expanded to 17 acres, and by Sunday night was 98% contained. The cause of that fire is still undetermined. The Crow Creek fire 9 miles south of Afton was contained within 15 acres by noon Sunday. The cause of that fire remains under investigation. Caribou-Targhee National Forest Assistant Fire Management Officer Martell Gibbons stresses, “Fire conditions are still volatile in the local area and we need everyone to do their part to prevent wildfires. The majority of recent starts have been human-caused.”
