Two graduation ceremonies finished out last week and the more than bizarre 2019-2020 school year. On Thursday Night, two separate ceremonies were held at the Spud Drive-In, and a total of 136 students graduated from Teton School District high schools. The seniors were called up in groups of ten, using a number they received when coming into the drive-in, which meant it wasn’t in alphabetical order. The Class of 2020 accumulated 851 hours of college credit during its time at Teton High School which is the equivalent of seven bachelor’s degrees. Additionally, Seniors earned $3,186,329 in scholarships. An hour-long video was shown on the Spud’s big screen after the diplomas were distributed, and the night culminated in a surprise closing for the students and families — a finale of fireworks. The “live” portion of the program was broadcast via livestream on the district’s Facebook page.
Then on Saturday, Jackson Hole High School staged its graduation ceremony in the student parking lot at the school. As students and families arrived, a student-created slide show of the graduates was projected on large screens set up on the east end of the lot. The ceremony began at 11:00 am and diplomas were distributed from a stage set up in front of the school’s main entrance. Approximately 95% of the graduates plan to go on to post-secondary education and a total of $788,300 in scholarships will help them to do so.
