The United States Presidential Scholars Program has released its list of high school candidates to be honored for their academic achievement in 2021, including ten from Jackson Hole.
Each year, up to 161 students are named U.S. Presidential Scholars, one of the Nation’s highest honors for high school students. In their news release, the national program explains the Scholars represent excellence in education and the promise of greatness in young people.
Students have the opportunity to become Presidential Scholars based on three paths of accomplishment. The majority of the Scholars are selected on the basis of broad academic achievement.
Approximately twenty additional students are selected on the basis of their academic and artistic scholarship in the visual arts, the performing arts, or creative writing.
Another twenty students are selected on the basis of their outstanding scholarship and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.
Nine of the students listed among the national candidates are from the Jackson Hole Community School while one is from the public school. They are Tommy Berner, Josh Hansen, Marena Herr, Vivian Herr, Ryan Millham, Cannon Mueller, Max Peters, Madeline Webb, and Ben Williams from the Community School, and Ally Smith from Jackson Hole High School.
The scholars are to be honored for their accomplishments during the National Recognition Program, held in June in Washington, D.C.
