Teton County Lifts Partial Fire Restriction

September 10, 2019 by Jackson Hole Radio

The cooler temperatures and increased moisture in the forecast this week is bringing relief for fire conditions in Teton County.
So much so that the Teton County Board of County Commissioners and Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Chief Brady Hansen have decided to lift the partial fire restrictions for the county on Tuesday morning.
“The rain, cooler temperatures and more rain in the forecast all have reduced the fire risk significantly enough to remove the restriction for now,” said Hansen.
The public is reminded to take the proper fire prevention precautions when: departing a campfire or bonfire; burning yard waste or rubbish; smoking; and utilizing cars, tools and other combustion engines.
Teton County went into a partial fire restriction on Sunday, September 1, 2019, after a wildland fire burned the hillside across from the Virginian, and spread to Saddle Butte, evacuating residents in the subdivision for two nights. Warm temperatures, low humidity and high winds put conditions that week in a Red Flag Warning.
The Saddle Butte Wildland Fire started when a Mylar balloon intersected a power line, causing sparks to fall onto the grass below. The fire was 100 percent contained on Wednesday, September 4. No structures were lost and no injures were reported in the 255-acre fire.
