Teton County Schools Closed Starting Monday
Teton County School District #1 has announced it plans to suspend classes until at least April 5th. According to an official statement from the district, following the announcement of the positive COVID-19 case in Teton County, Idaho, this district carefully reviewed the CDC guidance (available here) for schools that suggests schools not close until there is a case in their buildings. However, the district also considered the efforts being made in the community to slow the spread of the disease. Consequently, in the words of the district’s officials’ statement, “Based on all of these considerations, all TCSD #1 schools will close starting, Monday, March 16th. Schools will remain closed until at least April 5th. Decisions about post-spring break closures will depend on how this situation unfolds in the coming weeks.” School Superintendent Gillian Chapman says plans for cloud or distance classroom learning and other services will be finalized and sent to families and posted on the TCSD #1 website on Monday. In the meantime, school officials urge students and families to remain vigilant in their prevention efforts and remind students to: “wash your hands frequently, cover your cough or sneeze with a sleeve or tissue and stay home if you are sick”.
