As Teton County Search and Rescue volunteers were getting ready to enjoy their annual Family Picnic at Miller Park last week, they were called for two separate rescue missions.
Just before 5 pm on Thursday, a woman was injured when she fell while hiking down Table Mountain.
Two groups of volunteers helped her down the mountain and monitored her condition to the trailhead.
Then at about 615 pm, teams responded to a 32-year-old male mountain biker who crashed on the Fuzzy Bunny Trail on Teton Pass and suffered severe injuries.
The team administered care, packaged him in a suck bag which is a full body vacuum splint used to immobilize and transport a patient. He was then carried to the ambulance.
The rider had been attempting a jump feature the mountain bike trail.
These incidents came on top of five calls for service since August 19th including an interagency helicopter mission on to pick up a trail runner in Alaska Basin, a missing berry picker, an injured horseback rider in Ditch Creek, and an injured mountain biker on Ferrin’s.
This has been the busiest year for callouts in Teton Search and Rescue’s near 30-year history.
