It was a very busy weekend for Teton County Search and Rescue, following what Chief Advisor Cody Lockhart terms “a very busy week.” The weekend began with a call at 9:00 am Friday involving a 15-year-old boy suffering apparent cardiac difficulties while overnighting with a guided group on Fox Creek Pass located on the Teton Crest trail. Using a satellite phone, the group leader called for help and Search and Rescue personnel called in Air Idaho to airlift the boy to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he was stabilized and admitted.
Then at 3:30 pm, an adult guest at the Heart-6 Ranch fell from the horse he was riding on a guided trip in the Bridger-Teton National Forest and suffered a leg injury. Members of the Search and Rescue Team responded on e-bikes to render emergency medical aid, and then the man was taken by a wheeled litter to a waiting ambulance which transported him to St. John’s Hospital for treatment.
On Saturday morning, Teton County Search and Rescue was called to locate an 18-year-old kayaker who had failed to complete his trip from Jackson Lake to Palisade Reservoir, but he was located before a river search was launched.
Finally, a 911 page was received at 4:10 am Monday from a family whose 7-year-old daughter was camped with them in Alaska Basin. She had become unresponsive and CPR was being administered. Air Idaho responded, made a night landing, successfully resuscitated the girl, and flew her to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was later transferred to a hospital in Salt Lake City.
