Teton County Sends Help for Oregon Fires

Work in fire-ravaged Oregon is transitioning from firefighting to recovery, and that state has requested help through a compact between western governor’s for assistance. In that request, Oregon specifically asked if Wyoming could arrange for Teton County Emergency Management Coordinator Rich Ochs to be sent to help launch a recovery plan for those impacted by the fires. Ochs says the “consequence management” efforts will include such things as housing and sheltering (including intermediate housing for those left homeless by the fires) and providing meals for the victims. Ochs says his deployment to the emergency coordination center in state capitol of Salem is expected to be for two weeks. Ochs leaves for his assignment Saturday. Meanwhile, a strike team of fire engines and teams from communities across the Wyoming – including Teton County Fire/EMS – is returning this week from the Oregon fire lines.
