Teton County Unemployment Rises

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services reports that the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell from 5.5% in October to 5.1% in November. Wyoming’s unemployment rate has been steadily decreasing since its peak of 9.6% in April and is currently much lower than the U.S. rate of 6.7%. It appears that the state’s economy is slowly recovering from the pandemic related closures seen earlier in the year and that many individuals have returned to work.  Still Wyoming’s jobless rate is considerably higher than its November 2019 level of 3.7%. From October to November, unemployment rates increased in seven counties, but decreased in 11 counties and remained unchanged in five counties. Teton County posted the largest increase, rising from 4.4% to 5.8%. Unemployment often increases in Teton County in November as the summer tourist season has ended and the ski season has not begun. Unemployment rates fell sharply in Campbell and Natrona counties. Of course, from November 2019 to November 2020, unemployment rates rose in almost every county.
