Today the Teton District Health Officer Dr. Travis Riddell provided recommendations on ways community members can help decrease the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Teton County. It should be noted that these recommendations are not Public Health Orders but are strongly encouraged to further protect our community. The recommendations state that adults, older than 65-years-of-age, and those with high risk medical conditions, stay at home, except for essential activities. Dr. Riddell also recommends that individuals who are currently visiting Teton County, Wyoming, should return to their primary residence; and that residents who leave the immediate regional area for any period of time, should upon their return make a safe choice for others and stay home for fourteen days after. Visitors who are considering a trip to Teton County, Wyoming, are discouraged from traveling to Teton County, Wyoming, during this pandemic. Please note that the recommendations are voluntary and are not orders and are also not enforceable under the law. Please do not call law enforcement or dispatch regarding individuals who are not following these recommendations. It’s your choice to follow these recommendations.
The following is a summary of the four recommendations described in greater detail by a document released by Teton County Health Officer, Dr. Travis Riddell:
Recommendation No. 1
WHO IT AFFECTS: Adults over the age of 65
Individuals living in a nursing home or long-term care facility
Those who live with an older adult or a person with high risk medical conditions
Individuals with high risk medical conditions include those with:
Chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma
Heart disease with complications
Immunocompromised including cancer treatment
Deemed at risk by medical provider
WHAT IS RECOMMENDED: Limit gathering with other individuals who are not immediate family. Stay at home except to perform essential activities.
WHAT ARE CONSIDERED ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES: Performing tasks essential to health and safety
Obtaining medical supplies, medicine or visiting a health care professional
Obtaining groceries
Engaging in outdoor activity while practicing physical distancing (6 feet apart)
Performing essential work duties
Caring for a family member or pet
RECOMMENDATION No. 2
WHO IT AFFECTS: Adults over the age of 65
Individuals who live in a nursing home or long-care facility
Those with high-risk medical conditions
Those who live with an older adult or person with a high-risk medical condition
Those who travel outside the immediate regional area
IMMEDIATE REGIONAL AREA INCLUDES: Teton County, WY;
Sublette County, WY;
Lincoln County, WY;
Fremont County, WY;
Bonneville County, ID; and
Teton County, ID
WHAT IS RECOMMENDED: Travel limited to:
Access essential activities
Care for elderly, minors, dependents or other vulnerable persons
Return to primary residence
Travel required by law enforcement or court order
Travel for non-residents to return to their home
Examples of acceptable, limited travel:
Travel to a park to go for a walk
Travel to/from doctor’s appointment
Recommendation No. 3
WHO IT AFFECTS: All residents of Teton County who travel outside the immediate regional area
IMMEDIATE REGIONAL AREA INCLUDES: Teton County, WY;
Sublette County, WY;
Lincoln County, WY;
Fremont County, WY;
Bonneville County, ID; and
Teton County, ID
WHAT IS RECOMMENDED: Residents who leave the immediate regional area and then return to Teton County, Wyoming, should stay at home, except to perform essential activities, for at least 14 days.
Examples of a 14-day shelter-in-home recommendation after returning from travel outside of the immediate regional area include:
Residents who travel to Salt Lake City, to go shopping. It is recommended that you stay at home for 14 days following your return;
Residents who travel to Florida for spring break. It is recommended that you should stay at home for 14 days.
RECOMMENDATION No. 4
WHO IT AFFECTS: Visitors and those considering visiting Teton County, Wyoming, as well as non- resident homeowners.
WHAT IS RECOMMENDED: Visitors to Teton County, Wyoming, are asked to return home immediately by the fastest and safest available means. Those considering visiting, should stay home. Non-resident homeowners are strongly encouraged to return to their primary residences.
