Teton Grizzly Put Down

Wyoming Game and Fish Spokesman Mark Gocke says a male grizzly bear was trapped in the vicinity of private inholdings in the northern part of Grand Teton National Park last week and euthanized. Gocke says the bear had a history of frequenting homes and getting into garbage north of Jackson in 2015 and had been moved twice that year. It then continued to seek out human foods since then, getting increasingly bold the past few years, to a point where it was breaking into out-buildings and getting livestock feed, garbage, and so forth. Gocke says the bear had dropped its collar, but still had ear tags to confirm it was the bear that had the history of causing problems. The bear was captured Wednesday, April 29th when it was caught in a culvert trap. After consulting with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Gocke says the decision was made to remove the bear from the population.
