February’s visitation statistics for Grand Teton National Park indicate the park has seen an appreciable decline during the month in recreational visitation. Altogether, 43,913 people traveled into the park for recreation during the month which is a 7.6% decline from the same month in 2018. That does not include those passing through the park on Highway 89 or entering the park on business, which when combined with recreational visits elevates the total visitation to a 1.6% increase. Observers on park staff blame the heavy snows for the drop in visitation. They point out that Highway 89 was closed for a total of 6 days and nights during the month. Specifically, they exclaim the storms came in measuring feet vs our normal 3 to 5 inches. Year-to-date, the park has seen a decrease in recreational visitation of just under 1.6%.
