While unemployment across Wyoming is seeing a decline, the jobless rate in Teton County has spiked over the past month to the third highest unemployment in the state. The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services is reporting that the state’s unemployment rate increased slightly from 5.3% in March to 5.4% in April. However, Wyoming’s unemployment rate was much lower than the current U.S. rate of 6.1%.
Most of the counties saw decreases in their unemployment with the largest unemployment rate decreases seen in Park Country -down from 5.9% to 5.1%, Big Horn County – down from 6.1% to 5.3%, and Johnson County – down from 5.9% to 5.2%. Teton County was the exception. Its unemployment rate rose from 4.2% in March to 7.0% in April as the ski season ended. However, compared with April of 2020, the jobless rate here was significantly lower than last April’s 12.5%.
