The first COVID-19 in Teton Valley, Idaho was announced by Officials from Eastern Idaho Public Health and Teton Valley Health in Driggs tonight. They said the Teton Valley resident was confined to her home with mild symptoms.
They made a formal announcement in Driggs Saturday night that a case of COVID-19 had been confirmed in Teton County, Idaho. Eastern Idaho Public Health Director Geri Rackow told those attending the news conference that the patient is a woman under 60 who had had close contact with someone with the disease in another state. Rackow assured that in spite of the confirmation, the risk to residents there remains low. Department Health Administrator James Corbett added that the woman’s symptoms are mild and remains in her home.
“She was made aware of her contact with the positive case from a neighboring state. She appropriately contacted her health care provider and discussed the need for testing. While the individual was awaiting test results, she remained at home and the positive test result was just received hours ago. At that time, the health district staff quickly began our investigation of the case. We will work to notify the individuals who have risk of exposure and give the further guidance,” Corbett said.
Officials declined to disclose what state the woman had visited. They said the case had been confirmed in the Idaho lab and now would be verified by the CDC. At this time, there is no indication what further actions will be taken to curtail activities in Teton Valley.
