Teton School District 401 board of education last night unanimously approved an August 31st start date for the coming school year. In the course of that approval, they adjusted the calendar by removing some staff in-service days and eliminating snow days so that the school year will not have to be extended longer into the summer. The plan calls primarily for students to return to the Teton Valley schools for in-person instruction. However, there are two other options that will be offered. One, called flex, will enable a student to attend classes virtually for a relatively short period of time in the event of illness or other concerns, but then return to in-class instruction. The third will provide online instruction exclusively in cases where a parent has particular concerns with their student returning to the classroom. Students will be required to wear masks, social distance, wash their hands regularly and will have their temperatures taken each day as they board the school bus or arrive at school. Superintendent Monte Woolstenhulm stressed the need for students to stay home if they are ill rather than “buck up” attend anyway. The school has posted the start-up information on Facebook for parents.
