To help alleviate the stress of not having enough food for the family, Teton School District #401 ramped up its free meals program. Over the past three-plus weeks, including Spring Break, the district served about 10,000 breakfasts and lunches to community members aged 1-18. School officials say it’s obvious by this number that the program is filling a huge need. With that in mind, the school district is encouraging parents who aren’t working, have been laid off, or otherwise have had a cut in pay to apply to the Free and Reduced Meals program. They point out that by so doing, they are not taking resources from others; but instead are helping Teton School District qualify for a variety of federal funding. School officials are concerned some families haven’t applied before because the paperwork seemed intrusive or they just didn’t understand how important this is. Questions about the program can be directed to Teton School District #401 Director of Child Nutrition Kathy Rowbury at 208-228-5723.
