Grand Teton National Park announced visitation had again broken records for the month of May. The Park hosted an estimated 363,712 recreation visits during the month, a 30% increase compared with May 2019. By comparison, the park was closed May 1st through the 17th in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Park statistics show the next highest May visitation was in 2018 when 296,885 visited the park for recreation. In Yellowstone meanwhile, 483,159 recreation visits took place in May. This is an 11% increase from May 2019 when 434,385 recreation visitors were counted in what had been the park’s most visited May on record.
Summer is the busiest season in both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks as millions of people visit the parks in June, July, and August. If you plan to travel to Grand Teton and Yellowstone this summer, park officials urge plan ahead, expect crowding, recreate responsibly, and keep a safe distance from animals and thermal features.
