A grizzly bear reportedly attacked and critically injured a man as he was mountain biking near Big Sky, Montana on Monday. According to a Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks spokesperson, the attack took place just after 1:00 pm. The man was mountain biking alone on a trail on private property in the Spanish Peaks Community when the attack occurred. Initial investigations indicate that the mountain biker likely surprised the grizzly bear after rounding a sharp corner on the trail. The biker, described as in his 60s, was able to escape the bear and walked to the South Fork Road where he got help from a passing motorist. The man was airlifted to a Billings hospital and remains in critical but stable condition with injuries to his face and back. Montana authorities are continuing their investigation of the incident. This marks the third grizzly bear attack in the Greater Yellowstone area in a month.
